Apple Crisps

Finally finally brought myself to read this book: Marley & Me. Yep I know I'm late in reading this, but after losing Cha Cha, anything remotely related to golden retrievers and labradors would send me into buckets of tears.

And even with the anticipation, this book still did just that....buckets of tears, both sad and joyous tears. Loved the story and the moral behind the story. Hope more people will come to understand the special relationship that they can build with their pets.

I've also been reading this: Pamper Your Pooch :) As an avid dog lover, I can't seem to stop myself from looking for ways to pamper my beloved dogs, even more so than for myself.

Within the book was an excellent recipe for apple crisps. Feeling energetic and itching to do something, I decided to give it a go, and was rewarded with these yummy, surprisingly sweet and healthy crisps.

Yum :) All I had to do was slice the apple thinly, lay them on baking paper, place on the lowest shelf in the oven and bake at 140C for 45 minutes or until they turn brownish. Turned them once or twice during baking, and left them to cool before storing in a container.

My only disappointment was the crispyness didn't last long. They were not that crispy the very next day. wonder what I can do to maintain it. As I said, these were very sweet! Full of natural sugar. Might sprinkle some cinnamon on them next time.

Will make these for the four-legged furries when I'm back with them :)

Yep I didn't manage to visit the London Pet Show in the end :( Instead we went to London Zoo! We saw several interesting animals.

Hello!

How's everyone doing!:) I've been MIA-ing from blogging again...not having Yuki around makes this harder to continue...but I'll still post now and again!

I'd like to share this idea of intuitive communication today. it's a way of communicating via thoughts and feelings with animals, and some say even with nature (trees, flowers etc). I know, most people think I'm crazy when I suggest this idea, but hey, people used to think the Earth was flat!

There are 5 ways of receiving/sending information: by seeing/knowing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. When I say seeing, it doesn't mean actually "seeing" something, no hallucinations here. Rather, it's in your mind. Try this: think of a banana. Imagine the yellow skin, visualise the soft yellow flesh inside, smell the distinct banana smell and taste it.

There, you have just "seen, smelt and tasted" a banana! During communications, the sensations are similar to what you have just tried. So no, you won't be hearing things or hallucinating or go crazy!

I'm still in the process of learning this skill so if anyone has any suggestions or experiences they'd like to share, please do! Also, do tell me if you're learning too, it's much nicer when I know that other people are as interested in this as me!:)

Came across this article on the mechanisms behind the way cats drink! Very interesting! Apparently cats and dogs drink in different ways.

Cats only use the tip of their tongue to draw up a column of liquid and close their mouth around it.

Dogs dip their tongue in liquid and scoop up liquid with their tongue curled like a spoon.

My turn to cook tomorrow for my housemates, and I'm planning to cook a chunky omelette. Basic ingredients are eggs, herbs, spices (salt and black pepper), vegetables and cheese. I love cheese...

Yeast

Hi guys! I've been revising for an exam so havn't been round visiting/blogging.

Anyway I need your opinions. Yuki has been having yeast infection for quite some time now. We've brought her to the vet who gave medication, cream etc. They workedd but once we stopped the cream application, her yeast infection continues again. Many people have suggested that we should just trim her fur short so control the yeast infection. What do you guys think?

Will trimming her fur short really help with yeast infection?

:)...:D It has been snowing in London! Whee my first time walking on such thick snow! I went to Hyde park with my friends and we had such a great time.

There were many dogs running around hyde park very excitedly. I tried taking a photo with a dog but it was so excited about the snow and couldn't stop running around! hahha the dogs were having such great fun!

Christmas break

Hi everypup! Joyce (Yuki's hooman) here. I went back to Malaysia for 3 weeks during Christmas holidays and I want to thank everyone who sent Yuki a Christmas card! We stuck all the cards on the window behind Yuki was of course extremely excited and happy to see me that she couldn't eat her dinner on the night I arrived in Malaysia! She was so excited, and for the next few days she would come running up the stairs to the room i'm sleeping in and wake me up all excited and happy. She stuck to me like glue for the first few days and didn't let me out of her sight! My darling Yuki:)

Whilst in Malaysia I brought Yuki to her first ever full grooming session. I'll post some pictures another day :)

So now I'm back to London and won't return to Malaysia till summer hols, which means end of June O_O scary thought but i'm sure Yuki and I will make it through.

Hi all! I just came back from a lovely trip to the wild and unknown!! haha no not really, more like a calm, lovely and peaceful village. My hooman forgot to bring the camera, so very little pics were taken. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

One very important thing....if you're planning to go there...make sure your hooman takes along a sweater for you....it's really cold up there compared to Kuala Lumpur...I'm lucky I'm covered in fur but my poor hooman was freezing heheh.

My hooman's daddy brought back a tea pillow (pillow stuffed with tea leaves). I was curious so i went over to sniff and then SUDDENLY my hooman picked ME up and stuffed me into the bag!!My sad face:

New bed + Bird eggs:)

My hooman got a new bed (or rather my first bed) for me!! It's from IKEA. They had blue ones before, but they were too big for me. This is just right:) oh i'm so happy!

Oh and I'm all better now. Spayed but i now have a great appetite. I even gobble down my dog food:D

Another exciting event: Mr. Bird has been flying with twigs...we guessed he was making a nest. This was no surprise as it's the third nest built in our house (don't think it's the same bird for all three though)

Now the previous 2 were abondoned after some time, with no Mrs. Bird coming to lay eggs. But on the 12th of July, my hooman's mummy noticed 2 beautiful eggs in the nest:)
Aren't they cute? I hope they hatch into beautiful birds. The nest is soo round. Looks quite comfy. Mr. Bird must have been very hardworking.

I spent this special day in.........the vet.*shudders* Had to go for an operation to remove my uterus cuz apparently I got pyometra........pus in my womb = womb infection. so yea basically, I was spayed on my 2nd birthday. This morning, i woke up to find this: My hooman's brother's basketball shoes right in the middle. Who left them there??? My hooman asked everyone in the house and no one touched the pair of shoes.... scary huh. and putting shoes in the middle of the doorway is a no no in our house. We always put our shoes to the side.

Animals and the Afterlife

This book is a pretty nice book. My hooman hasn't finish reading it yet, but she says it's very interesting. It contains stories where people connect with their animals through an animal communicator (some can communicate directly with their pets). Isn't it amazing? The animal communicators can even connect with the soul of a deceased pet.

You can also check out www.compassioncircle.org for a list of animal communicators, some can "speak" to your pet over the phone. All these seem too good to be true, but it's tempting to believe it :D. Of course, we doggies can communicate perfectly to hoomans, just that they can't understand what we say.

hello hello, sorry for the lack of posts for the past days.....my hooman just started school = less time for blogging.

last saturday, my hooman brought me to the groomers for basic grooming, dematting and detick/deflea bath. wheee i don't have any matts anymore! my fur is now silky smooth:D

Since i was such a good girl at the groomers, my hooman bought treats for me as a reward:
I was pooped after the grooming session, oh the groomer shaved my belly so my hooman thought i would get cold and she gave me that blankie (her old pillowcase)

The groomer was nice and gave me that pretty pink ribbon.

what is this?!?! instead of giving money to help the local organisations in their effort to spay and neuter stray dogs and cats, money will be given to those who successfully capture stray dogs, no matter what method is used as long as the dogs are alive?? this is outrageous.

These few days, the weather has been nice and cool, thanks to the rain. Look, my hammie siblings are cuddling together for warmth.

Updates: okay i have fleas. my hooman took advice from Boo and searched on the internet. thank you everydog n GG who gave me advice on getting rid of the bloodsuckers. I'm currently using Frontline spray, cause well we have a bottle of it at home so i'm trying that out first.

My hooman found another flea on my leg, but then later, she found a dead one. Seems like the Frontline spray is effective only at places where it's sprayed. i kinda hate the spray. the sudden coldness shocks me so my hooman had a hard time gettin the spray on me.

Oh nonononoonoonn! i had a bath today, and my hooman found out why i kept scratching myself: I have fleas!!!! (or is it ticks? i can never get them the right way round)

Please help! any ideas how to get rid of them? i'm wearing a tick/flea collar, but it doesn't seem to be working (have been wearing it as a prevention before)

i've tried for days to get my hooman to bring me out for a walk. She did a few times, but most lasted only 1-2 minutes. Let me tell you why:

My hooman is lazy to give me a bath, so she insisted bringing me out in this trolley.

Turns out, the road was too bumpy, so she pushed the trolley back.....Today, my hooman brought me out for a walk again, BUT...........

Not long after she closed the gate, it started to rain heavily.
But don't worry, cause i got to go to my hooman's aunt and uncle's place. i met Golden there, Uncle T's golden Retriever. (PS, Aunt S lives next door to Uncle T, both are married with kids) She was more interested in the treats that my hooman was holding rather than me.

Then, we went to visit Aunt S and Uncle T's new houses (still under renovation). There were many cats there! i had such fun barking and chasing them. But it's funny, they managed to climb up trees! amazing.

Master Hunt. I joined this, and i did pretty well. i was placed at one end of the maze, while my hooman went to the other end. Then i had to find my way through the maze to find her. i was so smart ya know? i even found a shortcut at the end, i went under the fence:D why go around it when you can go under it? hehe (Owner: ...........30 sec penalty!!)

I joined 3 games: Master Hunt, Agility Challenge and Best trick. did pretty well at MH, did okay at agility (Hooman: totally failed! went through/around all the hurdles, jumped off the A-board etcetc...but i guess she did pretty well considering this is the first time she tried agility ;) )
Best trick................i did nothing! was so tired and distracted by the noise and awfully loud music that i did absolutely nothing! embarrassing......

Hauls from the event. My hooman bought homebaked cookies and a sticker from PAWS too. I was soo tired that i couldn't even lift my head for the pic.
Oh and we got the dog tag engraved there too, cuz i don't have a dog tag yet. the blanked-out bit is my mummy's handphone number.

Pacco did well in the games she participated as usual;) didn't get to say hi to Pacco n her hooman properly cause we were both rushin about to join the different games, esp my hooman who wanted to explore the place as well. As for me, i was just pooped out...Amber-Mae did a great performance for best trick, as did Chloe. my hooman took a video of the performance, but she took it the wrong way (supposed to be landscape but she took it the portrait way...dunno how to turn it the right way round now.......) But no worries, Amber-Mae posted a video on her blog;)

Ohh so proud of my bloggin pals, and envious too! so many great prizes, haha but they earned it, all the trainigs paid off!

Herbal shampoo

I came across this website and thought all you doggies should hear about it too: http://www.dogtreatrecipes.com.au/. It's a great site where you can sign up for the free newsletters and get 2 free ebooks. Justin Bryce (who owns the website) sends interesting tips. One of it was how to make herbal shampoo.

Instructions:

Slightly dilute aloe vera gel with water

Apply to coat

wash with warm water

(you can add a bit of baby shampoo in step one if you want)

We substituted the gel with the actual plant since we don't have the gel. This is when the insides of the plant have been scraped off and mushed using a fork.

My hooman then added a lot of water to it cuz it was soooo stick and gooey. Then she plastered me all over with that stuff. i can't say that it was relaxing or healing or soothin cuz it was still a BATH!

PS my hooman went thru all that trouble cuz she thought it would help ease the itchiness but sadly i continued scratching after the bath.

My owner just came back from Kota Kinabalu, where she climbed Mount Kinabalu. They say it's the only place in Malaysia where there's snow, but when she got to the peak, there was no snow AND it was not that cold.........what a bummer. Anyway, the worst thing is, my owner said the computer is sick. It's down with virus (??) How can a computer get virus?

Hope the computer gets well soon, i hav not been bloggin for so long!!

My owner and i thought it was very meaningful and so we signed up. We have chosen Independent Pet Rescuers as the organisation that we will donate to. They are very kind people and their mission is to rescue and rehome stray animals and avoiding euthanizing at all costs.

Gomer and Opie are also helping homeless animals in their own unique way: The First Annual Dogs' Aye View 10K! To find out more, check out their blog and click on the 10K button!

1 year old barkday and hammie babies

i turned 1 on the 26/06/07. thank you everydog for the barkday wishes;) i did not have a very interesting 1st barkday, as that day my owner found out how matted my fur actually was ( i was kinda neglected during her exam period *sob*) so she and her mum decided to give me a rigorous grooming and much of my matted fur was cut off. now i look weird!!! i still hav a few mats and tangles here and there though. will be working through those in the next few days. i really dislike this kind of groomin!

But guess what happened recently!! my hammie sibling gave birth to 5 hammie babies! my owner said they look cute but i think they look like worms.

Before babies appeared, the 2 hammies were very romantic, and always slept like this:

I went for grooming last week at denisedylan. This was how i looked after grooming:
Sorry for that having any pictures of me actually being groomed. My owner forgot to bring the camera to the shop.....

I wasn't really enjoying the grooming, and was trying to escape most of the time. But i settled down towards the end, and to reward me for being such a good lil girl, she bought me this treat!

Found Doggie!

Recently, a white dog with a blue collar has been hanging around the area outside my house. It looks tame, but doesn't really understand commands like sit. it followed my owner into the house a few times, but my owner had to use food (dog food) to lure it out, because it did not like me. It, well she, barked at me a few times and bared her teeth at me. Now my owner feeds her with dog food (yes MY FOOD) and gives her water whenever she comes.

Earth Hour

In Sydney, on the 31st of March, 7:30 - 8:30 pm is Earth Hour. This is when people in Sydney will turn off their lights for 1 hour, giving 1 hour back to Earth.

Isn't this a cool event? My owner is planning to join in, (eventhough we do not live in Sydney :P) Pleae join in as well, it's such a meaningful event. My owner is planning to turn off the lights at around 6 - 7pm, since the time in Sydney is faster than Malaysia. What do you guys think? At what time should we do it?

Holiday in hometown

Hi all! sorry for the lack of posts. My owner has been busy with homework and tests. SHe'll be even more busy in the next few weeks (she said mocks are comin up. i wonder what they are....)Anyway, i enjoyed my trip to hometown.

Oh this is Poppy, who belongs to my owner's cousins. She one interesting but slightly fierce dog. When i was sniffing her, she slapped me with her paw!! Needless to say, i was shocked, but that did not stop me as i'm fearless!

Darn got tricked again......ok i admit, i'm terrified of fireworks. who isn't? It's a monster! with loud footsteps, planning to gobble me up!!! hmph i will not let it do that. watch out u monster. i shall set my teeth on you the next time u come!!

This coming sunday is chinese new year. My owner is bringing me back to her hometown (leaving in a few minutes!) and we are coming back on friday 23rd. She said there will be limited internet access, so i don't think i will be blogging during this time.

Phew! That was close!

Wow, a terrifying event just occurred. Just now, my daddy went out, and i followed him out to the carporch. When he closed the autogate, it closed too slowly, and i slipped out, and daddy didn't notice!!! Then daddy got into this big silver thing and went away, leaving me all alone in the dark! I panicked. I couldn't get back in, as the gate closed already. I scratched and scratched the gate but it didn't work!! I couldn't get back in!

Luckily, a kind stranger came by, and rang the doorbell for me (i was too short) and alerted my family.

Now, i am safely back in my home sweet home:D Wasn't it a close experience? If the stranger didn't ring the bell, i might have been dognapped by a dognapper! *shudders*

Pet safari treasure hunt (finals)

Last sunday was the finals for the pet safari treasure hunt. hehe sry i thought it was on the 7th of jan.

My owner brought me to the treasure hunt, since Cha Cha was still missing (Cha....where are you? i miss you!!).

It was pretty fun. In the end i was tied for 2nd place with Benji and Taro, but i lost terribly and came in 4th. Congratulations to Benji (2nd) and Taro (3rd)!! (sorry i forgot the name of the dog who came in first, someone help me out!)

Volunteered at PAWS

My owner volunteered at PAWS today. She said it was pretty fun.
Here's what she said:
Hello, i volunteered at PAWS this morning. It was pretty fun. I went with a few of my friends. We took dogs out for walks, groomed cats, and scrubbed cages. Overall, it was a fun experience, mainly because i went with my friends and because there were foreign volunteers there who were very helpful. They told us what we can do, and how to do it (eg how to groom cats and how much we should feed them.)

They were also very informative. We walked the dogs with Barbara, a friendly female volunteer. Whenever we stop to rest for a while, she will tell us how PAWS operates, such as all animals are vaccinated etc.

Tips for those planning to volunteer:

Wear long pants (in case the dogs try to bite you)
Come in the morning around 9:30am as by that time, most of the place has been hosed down with water, so it's cleaner and poop free:P
Also, foreign volunteers are usually around in the morning but not in the afternoon, hence come in the morning as they actually talk to you, telling you what you can do around the shelter.

I'm really looking forward to the next time when i can volunteer again :D
